About

I work primarily in the area of political philosophy, attempting to bring together insights from the European tradition (especially 19th Century figures, hermeneutics, and Critical Social Theory), with issues pertinent to contemporary experience (such as war, violence and peace, Human Rights, and the task of political ethics).  I teach courses that take up these topics, guided by the Ancient sentiment that  philosophy is a "way of life," and not simply discourse about philosophy.  Before being awarded the Ph.D. in philosophy, I  earned degrees in Theology.

My book, "Elements of the Utopian," was recently published (March 2011), and I have a contract for an edited collection tentatively titled "Paul Ricoeur and the Task of Political Philosophy."

I have received a contract for a five-year book series on "The Thought of Paul Ricoeur," to be published by Lexington books, a subsidiary of Rowman & Littlefield.  This series is devoted to all aspects of Ricoeur's thought.  We are looking for proposals for edited collections and single or multi-authored topics.  Please contact me if you have an interest in publishing in this series.
